Black Eee PC 901 Caught

Guess the Atom-powered Eee PC 901 won’t only come in iPod white if this leaked image of a black Eee PC 901 is to be believed. I wonder whether it has any fundamental difference between the colors inside, or is it just a cosmetic change. Well, all we can do now is wait until the June release date in order to find out the true color (pun not intended) of the black Eee PC 901.

Bestlink Alpha 400 Mini Notebook

Guess the Asus Eee PC has yet another rival in the form of the Bestlink Alpha 400, bringing the following to the table :-

  • 32-bit XBurst 400MHz processor
  • 7″ true color display at 800 x 480 resolution
  • 128MB RAM
  • 1 to 2GB of internal flash memory
  • SD memory card slot
  • USB connectivity

WiFi is optional, so you’ll need to purchase a dongle for that. The Bestlink Alpha 400 measures a diminutive 8.3″ x 5.6″ x 1.3″ and tips the scales at a mere 1.5 pounds. It will be powered by Linux, and will cost $250 as you choose from half a dozen colors. Of course, if you can find another 99 friends who wants one, the price will drop to $180.

Iomega 250GB eGo Leather Hard Drive

Iomega has just released a 250GB leather-wrapped eGo hard drive for those who actually give a damn about carrying their data in style. This leather-clad USB-powered device will be able to hold 2.5″ hard drives inside, featuring Iomega’s very own DropGuard technology that protects the eGo Leather Drive from accidental damage caused by drops of up to 51 inches (129 cm). Working equally well with both Windows and Mac platforms, one must take note that the EMC Retrospect HD backup software will only function with Windows-based computers only. Too bad for Mac users, eh, but I suppose they have other attractive backup options that PC users miss out on. The 250GB Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive will retail for $149.95 a pop.

Samsung working on new Q1 UMPC

Guess Samsung has not ditched the Q1 UMPC idea just yet, as its engineers are hard at work on a second revision. Samsung won’t introduce anything revolutionary, but will instead build on the existing platform with a revamp of internal parts. Needless to say, we can look forward to faster and more spacious specifications, with perhaps some improvement to the current form factor. Word on the street has it that Samsung will be rolling out the third version of the Q1 UMPC at the beginning of 2009. Do you think this is a dead end for Samsung, or are they really on to something here?
